So about Johnston County Commissioner Tony Braswell

Tony Braswell is a Johnston County NC Commissioner.  His day job is with Triangle East Realty.  His Facebook profile lists him as Owner/Partner at Triangle East Realty, LLC. In fact, he gets his email at tony@triangleeastrealty.com as I noted in this post.

Triangle East Realty, LLC in Smithfield, NC is a real estate development firm that buys, sells, rents and builds houses.  Part of Triangle East Realty is a building contractor called Summerlin Builders, Inc.  The contact listed for Summerlin Builders is Randy Summerlin.

With me so far?

Tony Braswell is a Johnston County Commissioner.  The Johnston County Commissioners appoint a number of county boards.  One of them is the planning board.  (Select Planning Board and hit "View Detailed Information About Board")

What does the Planning Board do?

The function of the Board is to consider plans for subdivisions, mobile home park developments and zoning issues according to regulations adopted by the County and carry out advisory responsibility to the Board of Commissioners.

And who was appointed to the planning board by the Johnston County Board of Commissioners?

Randy Summerlin
Smithfield, NC
Term Expires: February 28, 2013

There is more to the relationship than a working relationship but I've hit a brick wall and can't connect the rest of the dots I have collected.  All I can say for sure is that Randy Summerlin's late wife's name was Marlene Braswell Summerlin. But that's probably just a coincidence, right?

And Crystal Summerlin Johnson, Randy Summerlin's daughter, is listed as the primary realtor at Triangle East Realty.

So what we have here are a house buyer/seller, and house builder and the guy that zones those houses all working for the same company. And at least two of them are related, possibly all three. And two of them are in county government positions that make the rules for building houses.

And apparently Tony Braswell is rather sensitive about cronyism.  When confronted on Facebook about his August vote on the noise ordinance and about the relationship between Cookie Pope (Johnston County Commissioner and partner at Mast Law Firm) and the current Johnston County attorney, Braswell had Denise Rentz (the Johnston County GOP chair and JoCo GOP Facebook page moderator) pull the post.

But that's okay.  I got screen shots of it.  A separate post about Pope and Mills will be coming up.

  1. Vewy intewesting. We’ve got up to two years to break this cronyism, among other things, wide open and put an end to it for maybe three them, at least. They thought we would disappear if they moved up a noise ordinance vote to the beginning of the meeting to ‘get us out of there’ quicker. As I wrote to B.A.B.E. before we replaced him with Renee Ellmers, they’ve awakened a sleeping giant. And we’re not going back to bed any time soon.

  2. This is just the beginning.

The cronyism goes back years if not decades and while it is possible that some of the currently serving commissioners and those they’ve appointed are not involved in cronyism and nepotism I wouldn’t bet on that.

I have evidence of this behavior on at least two other commissioners and I’m not done digging.

  3. Get a life!!!!!

    • Got one, thanks!

Nice of you to drop by and engage in debate about our current fools in office!

  4. Honestly, you people need to get a life. You have no idea what you are talking about and I hope that Mr. Tony Braswell takes care of you in the end. He’s done more than anyone for the community and it is disheartening that people like you have nothing better to do in your lives than to say things about other people. If you want change run for a government office and do something to help people. Stop trashing people who do. Jealousy isn’t good for anyone.

    • This is quite typical of the kind of response that unearthing the truth about our current county government generates.

You will note that while there is a quite a bit of invective applied here, there is note one actual argument. no disagreement on the facts, nothing of substance to say but nasty personal attacks.

      This is *very* typical.

And do note, recent guests, that unlike Tony Braswell did, *I* won’t be deleting this discussion. I’m going to let you spew your venom all you want.

    • “Honestly, you people need to get a life.”

We have lives, thank you very much. The problem we have is when interloping and cronyistic politicians INTERFERE with our lives.

“…I hope that Mr. Tony Braswell takes care of you in the end.”

      Takes care of him?

      Takes CARE of him?

Please. Elaborate. Exactly HOW do you hope that Mr. Braswell TAKES CARE of him? Inquiring minds want to know.

“He’s done more than anyone for the community and it is disheartening that people like you have nothing better to do in your lives than to say things about other people.”

And therein lies the problem. If all Tony Braswell and his six peers on the Board did were “say things about other people,” we’d all be happy clams and get along just fine. Government that governs least, governs best.

“…run for a government office and do something to help people.”

If the Johnston County County Commissioners had the slightest clue what the intention of our founding fathers were in penning the great trifecta of documents, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, they would be appalled at the very behavior they exhibit.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” – C. S. Lewis

We want them to STOP HELPING.

    • Additionally, I have in my possession an email from a discussion I was included on from Mr Braswell himself that will demonstrate what an incredible gentlemen he is.

      NOT.

Oh, sure, he apologized. Primarily for GETTING CAUGHT. The test of character how one behaves when he thinks no one is watching or at least no one who is going to challenge and/or expose him. He failed.

Another good measure is how one treats those he disagrees with. Witness Paul Ryan vs. Joe Biden.

Can you demonstrate that anything Knitebane wrote in this post is factually incorrect? Because that is all that should matter. It’s up to you if you want to get all butthurt about that.

      • This is the same pattern of behavior that we’ve seen from Braswell himself, and Mims, and Barbour, and Carver.

They insist that we’re misinformed, or lying or something but they never actually offer a rebuttal. All they do is whine and cry and demand respect that they haven’t earned.

I understand their dilemma. All they have is butthurt because somebody took a poke at their tin god. They can’t rebut anything in the post because it’s all true. So they rant and stamp their feet and call people names and insist that the information is wrong.

And their first reflex is to insist that I’m “hiding behind an alias.” One wonders if they have the same reaction to editorials in the Snooze and Disturber. It’s especially hilarious when they accuse us of that on Facebook, where our real names are right there on the post. Idiots like that shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the levers of power. They don’t have any real arguments so they fall back on what has always worked.

It’s pathetic and entirely in line with what we’ve seen from the current regime in JoCo.

Of course, in the Age of Breitbart attacks like that don’t work. They can have their little temper tantrums all they want, we’re not going away.

  5. Got to love a blog that hides behind an alias. Show your face you coward.

    • Nice.

Says the person that leaves timfarthouse@gmail.com as an alias when posting.
